Now, if you've been paying attention from time to time, you'll know I'm an unrepentant, probably quite offensive atheist.
One of the more desperate theories in the faith-based world at the moment is 'Intelligent Design'. This makes the somewhat extraordinary claim that a single benevolent creator which may or may not be God made everything as it is, without the action of evolution. An outgrowth of both traditional religion and this particular branch of faith says that this creator made everything else on the planet for the purposes of humankind - all that 'mastery of all the animals' lark.
I'm on record practically everywhere as regarding this as what comedian Dave Gorman described as "wrong-headed addled-brained poppycock - I think it is cock of the poppiest kind." As far as I'm concerned, I've never heard, seen, read or experienced any argument that could give this insane theory any credibility whatsoever.
Until now.
If you read yesteday's entry, you'll remember that among the items on her divine conveyor-belt, d made a pulled pork roast.
(drools, a la Homer Simpson).
It's the closest thing I've ever known to proof that the pig was put on this Earth for a purpose, and a crack in the fabric of reality, through which that purpose has been made manifest to me. I'm one sandwich away from an Allelujah chorus here...
(Sigh)
Hopefully, I'll be rational again by tomorrowmmmmmmporkyporkyporkpork....
Ahem...sorry about that.
Anyway, in other news...well, it's not really news by now is it? It's a Monday, so I'm panicking. Have done 35 miles of cycling today, cos...well, y'know, yadda yadda panic, yadda yadda weigh-in, yadda yadda woe is me, all the usual schtick.
Sucks beyond words that tomorrow we both have to go back to work. Still, on the upside, it'll be back to a certain kind of daily discipline that might help get me back on track. That said, I've become something of a bike-slut over the last eleven days, in more ways than one. Not only have I been doing it more, but I've also done something wrong, because it's been increasingly difficult to, for instance, put socks on my right foot. My hip has become less flexible, and I've sort of discovered it's something to do with incorrect cycling - my right leg has a tendency to flop sideways in an altogether wanton fashion, whereas there's not room for my left leg to flop - so I've been pushing down wrong, and knackering something. Have made a conscious effort not to flop for the last couple of days, and the flexibility is improving again. Back to a little walking a little tomorrow, and hopefully will still be able to get some reasonable amount of cycling in when I get home.
Of course, having rambled this far without any particular agenda, it occurs to me that I'm embarked on a little intelligent design of my own. I'm designing a much-thinner human being, week by week and pound by pound.
Oi! I heard that. Whaddaya mean "not that intelligent, mate"?! Humph. That'll be quite enough honesty from you lot, thankyouverymuch.
Oh yeah - blood this morning was 7.7, after cycling 15 miles and eating a bowl of cereal. Like I say, getting back to a kind of routine might be useful...
